Founded in 2024, YIMBiK empowers university students, early-career scientists, and young entrepreneurs across Kenya to research, innovate, and commercialize homegrown biotech solutions. Empowering Youth to Transform Africa through Science and Innovation

At Young Innovators and Researchers in Microbiology and Biotechnology Kenya (YIMBiK), we organize structured innovation challenges to identify, support, and accelerate groundbreaking solutions led by youth in the fields of biotechnology, microbiology, agriculture, public health, and environmental sustainability.

Our competitions are designed to cultivate entrepreneurial thinking, reward scientific creativity, and provide real-world platforms for young scientists to translate ideas into impactful ventures.

 YIMBiK Biotech Innovation Challenge 2025

Theme:
“Microbial & Biotechnological Solutions for Food Security, Public Health, and Climate Resilience”

Status: Open | Deadline: 31st August 2025

Target Participants:

  • University students (3rd year to postgraduate)

  • Early-career researchers and youth innovators (18–35 years)

Innovation Focus Areas:

  • Sustainable agriculture (e.g., microbial biofertilizers, soil remediation)

  • Climate-smart food systems

  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance technologies

  • Waste-to-energy biotechnology

  • Affordable biotech diagnostics for public health
